If she has any rings that she wears on her engagement ring finger already then try to get hold of one of them if she happens to take them off. If that fails, you could attempt to size up her fingers in other ways, like measuring a glove she owns, or even jokingly drawing around her hands / fingers on a piece of paper. In the event that you get an engagement ring, but something is not right about it, there is nothing to it, since you can just change it or get it resized, and there will be no harm done. All you have to do is give her the ring, and a few days later just mention that she can make changes to the ring if she wants to, and that it will not hurt your feelings.
