Planning Groom Speaches
They say hindsight is a wonderful thing, but I guess I never really knew just how important groom speaches were until my fiancé and I began obsessively planning the ‘BIG’ day! The truth is that I left it for weeks and weeks before I even realised that I was going to have to get down to it and actually write the thing.
My advice about that? Don’t make the same mistake I did. Plan ahead if you can!
When you first start thinking about your groom speech it can seem like a really challenging task. After all, there is already so much going into standing up in front of everyone and saying those vows, standing up again and making a speech is pretty nerve-wracking! As the date got closer and closer I tried to think of an inspirational, yet charming and hilarious groom’s wedding speech and it just wasn’t coming to me. So what I eventually decided to do was to sit down and just write some of the thoughts that popped into my head.
I now know there are better ways to write a better groom speech or groom toasts but this was at least a start.
It was then that I began to consider other solutions like speech guides and prompts to structure the speech as a story, jotting down information on me and my bride. You know the sort of things like where and when we met and how our romance blossomed etc. It really did help put our relationship into context and lay the foundations for a future together.
At this stage I think it’s best not to worry about the order or the content of what you’re writing (or any wedding speech jokes!). The best thing to do is make a start, any kind of start well in advance of the wedding. Just begin with the notes and you will soon find yourself on the path to the perfect groom speech.
