How a Wedding Planner Chooses a Wedding Dress
Choosing a wedding gown as a wedding planner is a very important process, one that a bride gets incredibly excited about. It’s one of the most fun aspects of preparing your wedding. No matter if you have an idea of the type of wedding dress that you want or if your wedding planner knows your style, the gown you choose will be something you remember for years down the road. By having this at the forefront of your thoughts, it’s the section of your wedding that your wedding planner and you don’t want to sit around until the day before your wedding to plan. Here are some tips to help get your gown search started!
It’s likely that your gown will take about 4-6 months to arrive after you’ve ordered it. So start looking for the perfect gown EARLY! You should purchase your gown early so that you’ll have plenty of time to get fitted and then have your wedding planner take your dress in for alterations before the day of your wedding. Don’t under-estimate how long it might take to find the gown for you. All those fittings will take time
You should sit down and plan out your dress budget with your wedding planner, keeping in mind that there are several things to buy like jewelry, accessories, gloves, veil, and other clothing.
Make sure you try your dress on because they don’t look like they do hanging up! Have your wedding planner remind you of this. Pretty gowns hanging up may not look as good on you as you would have first imagined. It’s very, very important that you try it on before buying it!
Ask your wedding planner or store staff to help you out with any questions you may have. You’re paying them to help, so don’t be afraid to use their wedding planning expertise. When speaking with your planner, it will give them a good idea what style you’re searching for.
Don’t make the mistake of ordering a gown that is “only one size smaller” than your usual size. It’s much cheaper to order the right size, instead of ordering smaller with the promise to yourself that you’ll lose weight before the wedding.
When your gown arrives in the store, take your wedding planner with you to check it out at the store. Do a quick fitting with the dress on before buying it.
Make sure you check out all of the angles when you try the dress on. Finding something you don’t like at the store is much easier to fix than finding it once you get home, so make sure you tell your wedding planner or store staff any imperfections that you find. While at the store, they’ll be able to fix any problems that you may find.
With all of this in mind, I wish you the best of luck in your search for the perfect wedding gown…YOUR perfect gown!
